Our schedule is pretty tight – we have a lot of information to cover! But, we also ensure that we have plenty of time for Q&A – after all, everyone needs to be on the same page before we can move on.
SHOOTING
One of the most common questions we get is whether there will be any shooting involved, and the answer is yes. That said, this is not a shooting workshop. We give the shooting portion of the Bebbinar the same weight that shooting is (or should be) in your business. So we spend an afternoon working with models, using light, composition and other elements to make our images, and then working through them in PS.
BUSINESS
The Bebbinars are heavily weighed to the business side of what we do. After all, if we cannot sustain our business and make a living at this, photography will go back to being a hobby while we hold down some other kind of job. We want your business to succeed and that means taking a hard look at what you are doing and how you can do it better. It means looking at everything – from your brand to your marketing, to your pricing and more.
If you have been in business for a while, this will kick you in the pants. And if you are a newer business, the information we give you will save you years of trial and error. All we ask is that you open your minds to a different way of doing things, and you answer all our questions with honesty.

It’s hard to believe that in just a couple of weeks we’ll be giving our first Bebbinar of 2011.
We spoke in Winnipeg last year, for PPOCMB, and we found that Winnipeg photographers are a wonderful group of people, eager to learn, and wonderful photographers! There was a lot of interest in our 2.5 day program, and so Winnipeg was the first city we added to our schedule.
Our only other Canadian Bebbinar in the works is in London, Ontario, one of my favorite cities!

What is a Bebbinar? It’s a funny name, isn’t it? We can thank a local photographer for that…we mentioned that we were thinking about holding a workshop and she joked, “What, a Bebbinar?” We laughed, but the name kind of stuck, and here we are.
Our elevator pitch is this: A Bebbinar is holistic education for photographers with a focus on the 90% of the business that does not involve image making.
Let’s think about that for a moment: We focus on the 90% of what we do that is not about photographs. Put another way, we are in the business of photography, not photographers in business. I know, it sounds like an issue of semantics, but it’s not. Rather, it’s a fundamental shift in how we, collectively approach our businesses. After all, most of us got into this business because we like to take pictures. We stay in this business because we like to take pictures. But, most of what we do is not about pictures.
So the Bebbinars look at all areas of what we do, from defining the kind of business we want, to effectively establishing your target market, to maximizing sales, and yes to making and presenting better images.
The ideal student for a Bebbinar is someone who is fairly comfortable with their camera already. They are already in business, or ready to start their business. They realize that the business part of the equation is where they struggle most. They now realize that photography is a very small part of what it takes to succeed. They are ready to grow, to change, to do what it takes to make this business work for them.
We have had brand new businesses and very established businesses in our classes. All are welcome – and we put great effort into ensuring that all will leave with the tools for change.
As always, if there are any questions about the Bebbinars, if you are wondering how to register, or you just want to chat – we are here! You can contact us directly via email, or leave a comment and we will answer you right here!
Thanks again for stopping by!
